“Blessed are you when others revile you … on my account”
It seems that many secular people, and particularly those who are of the Millennial generation, have been seeking to fill their longing for transcendent meaning and purpose in their lives by looking to political causes as a kind of surrogate religion. They are all to ready to silence and punish any who stray from their sorry substitute for the true faith.
Because of their lack of the very virtues that they claim, above all others, to possess, tolerance and inclusivity, I fear we may be embarking on a protracted period of intense civil conflict in this country. I wish we were not, but the wishing does not change the reality.
The video is from the anti Trump protest/riot in Portland. A street preacher has the poor taste to challenge the protestors with a call to repentance. I admire his ability to keep his temper under control in the face of the extreme hatred and intolerance he is subjected to by the mob.
“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.”
“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
Matthew 5: 11&12
