Theodore Dalrymple: “To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil”

“When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control.”

Theodore Dalrymple

Very true…and it is something tyrants have always known. It is clearly to be seen in our own country, right now. For example, that the coupling of two men, or two women, can be solemnized by institutions of the state as marriage is a lie, and that we are forced by all the instruments of government to assent to it is the ultimate of tyranny–even if a majority of the people have been so suborned that they willingly agree. It is then “tyranny of the majority”, which wise men of all times have known is at once the most insidious, and the most powerful of tyrannies.
