“By abortion, the mother does not learn to love, but kills even her own child to solve her problems. … Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. This is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion.”

– Mother Teresa, at the National Prayer Breakfast, Washington, DC, February 3, 1994

In thinking about abortion, it always calls to mind the William Billings hymn “Africa”, lyric by Isaac Watts. Here are the key stanzas (4-5)

    “…Can a kind Woman e’er forget
    The Infant of her Womb,
And ‘mongst a thousand tender Thoughts
    Her Suckling have no Room?

Yet, saith the Lord, should Nature change,
    And Mothers Monsters prove,
Sion still dwells upon the Heart
    Of everlasting Love…”

And here is a great version by Paul Hillier and His Majestie’s Clerkes
