“You cannot attain pure prayer while entangled in material things and agitated by constant cares. For prayer means the shedding of thoughts.”
– Evagrius the Solitary

A single question resides in learning to apply Evagrius the Solitary’s statement. What is the best fashion, for me, in living this truth out? People all show different fashions of being able to shed distractions and focus. For instance, my daughter does best by sitting in a coffee shop when trying to focus in on either preparing her lessons or grading papers. On the other hand, I do best by withdrawing from all those distractions. I have, also, known people able to walk in the crowds, without giving the throng more attention than love while praying. So then, while I need and favor the physical withdrawal, I am not certain there is a single path in living out Evagrius the Solitary’s truth.
