Je Suis Nigeria?

13 January 2015

People watch as smoke rises from the police headquarters after it was hit by a blast in Nigeria's northern city of Kano

It is natural to see first the tragedy that lies closer to home but there was also in the last several days a massacre in Nigeria that was much larger in scale and perpetrated for very similar reasons.

Families. Groups of friends. Dancers. Singers. Carpenters. Nurses. Mentors. Future surgeons and authors. Grandparents. Fathers. Daughters. Sons. Infants. Perhaps as many as 2000 innocent people were killed and many burned alive.

We may not be able to do a thing to change what happened but we can let the people of Nigeria know they are not alone. Because they aren’t.

The next time I read a blog, I hope that it does not fail me just as much as this particular one. I mean, I know it was my choice to read, however I genuinely believed you would have something interesting to talk about. All I hear is a bunch of complaining about something that you could possibly fix if you were not too busy seeking attention.
